Author Submission Guidelines

1. Types of Contributions

SJJLR accepts:

• Original Research Articles (4000 – 8000 Words)
• Review Articles (4000 – 8000 Words)
• Book Reviews (1000 – 1500 Words)
• Film/Theatre Reviews (1000 -1500 Words)
• Translations with critical introduction

2. Language and Typography Specifications

Manuscripts may be submitted in English, Hindi, Urdu, or Sanskrit. Authors should ensure that the language used is grammatically correct, coherent, and suitable for academic publication. To accommodate the multilingual nature of the journal, the following specific fonts must be used:

• English: Times New Roman, 12 pt
• Hindi: Kriti Dev 10 or Mangal, 10 pt
• Urdu: Jameel Noori Nastaleeq (or Unicode-compatible Urdu font), 12 pt
• Sanskrit: Sanskrit 2003 or Unicode Devanagari font, 14 pt

 4. Title Page Requirements

To ensure the integrity of the journal’s double-blind peer-review process, all author-identifying information must appear only on a separate title page file. The title page must include:

• Title of the paper (Concise and informative; manuscripts submitted in Hindi, Urdu, or Sanskrit must include both the original title and its English translation. The title should not exceed 12 words and should avoid all-caps or unnecessary symbols).
• Full name(s) of the author(s) (Listed in the mutually agreed order of contribution).
• Designation and Institutional affiliation (Department, Institution/University, City, State, Country).
• Official email address and Contact number.
• ORCID ID (Recommended).

5. Guidelines for Multiple Authors

As a general policy, SJJLR prefers a maximum of four authors per research article. Where a submission includes five or more authors, a brief Author Contribution Statement (not exceeding 60 words) outlining the specific contribution of each author must accompany the manuscript. One author must be designated as the Corresponding Author, who will act as the sole liaison with the Editorial Office during the submission, review, and publication processes. SJJLR does not mediate or resolve disputes relating to authorship after submission.

6. Abstract and Keywords

• Abstract: Every manuscript, irrespective of the language of the main text, must include an abstract written in clear, grammatically accurate academic English. It must be written as a single, self-contained paragraph of 150–250 words. It should concisely outline the research context, purpose, methodology, principal findings, and scholarly significance without containing citations, footnotes, tables, or non-academic language.
• Keywords: Authors must provide 5 to 7 precise keywords or multi-word phrases immediately following the abstract, arranged in alphabetical or logical order and separated by semicolons. Avoid overly broad terms or repeating words already used in the title.

7. Headings and Subheadings

Avoid excessive subdivision. Do not use all-capital letters for headings.

8. Incorporating Quotations

All citations must conform accurately to the MLA Handbook (9th edition).

• Short Quotations: Fewer than four lines of prose or 40 words should be integrated into the running text within double quotation marks, followed immediately by the parenthetical in-text citation.
• Block Quotations: Four or more lines of prose or 40 words or more must be presented as a separate indented block (0.5 inch / 1.27 cm from the left margin), single-spaced, and without quotation marks. The citation appears after the closing punctuation.
• Clarifications inside quotes must be enclosed in square brackets [ ], and omissions must be indicated by ellipses (. . .).

9. Tables, Figures, and Illustrative Material

• Each item must be numbered consecutively using Arabic numerals (e.g., Table 1, Figure 1) and cited in the text beforehand.
• Tables must have a concise title above them, and figures must have a caption below them. Complete source information must be provided for adapted materials.
• Tables must be created using editable MS Word table formatting (not inserted as images). Figures must be of publication quality with a minimum resolution of 300 dpi.

10. Citation and Referencing (MLA 9th Edition)

SJLR strictly follows the Modern Language Association (MLA) Handbook, 9th edition. Authors must ensure a perfect match between in-text citations and the Works Cited list.

• In-Text Citations: Employs the author–page system, e.g., (Austen 84) or (Premchand 156). For works with three or more authors, use the first author’s name followed by et al., e.g., (Ashcroft et al. 97).
• Works Cited List: Placed at the end of the manuscript, arranged alphabetically by the surname of the first author, and formatted with a hanging indent. Include DOIs wherever available in preference to active URLs.
